Park and Recreation Commission Page 3
Minutes of October 26, 2005
mailed to all Fleishman Park neighbors. The Commission could then formally
approve the plans at their November 30 meeting.

-Discuss Election Process
Director Centeno noted that the Commission normally appoints a Nomination
Committee prior to their annual elections. Last year, the Commission did not
use this process but instead accepted nominations from the floor. The
Commissioners discussed the election process and decided not to use a
Nominating Committee. Election of Officers for 2006 will be held at the
November 30 meeting.

ITEM 6 – UPDATES

-Parks for the Future
Director Centeno reported that the Governor signed the bill to put a 1/8 of a
cent sales tax on the ballot for parks in San Mateo County. She noted that
the Foundation will be making a presentation about the program to City
Council on December 5 and suggested that the Commissioners attend this
meeting to hear the presentation. The group will also be making
presentations to 23 cities in the County.

-Community Garden
Superintendent Beth reported that a community garden planning meeting
was held this week with students interested in the program. One community
garden is being planned behind the NFL Alumni Building which will include
eight garden beds and will include the Teen and Youth Advisory Boards,
senior groups and our Accessible Recreation Program. Materials have been
donated from Lyngso and County of San Mateo Recycling Program.

Superintendent Hover reported that the permits for the community gardens
on Johnson Street were approved by SFPUC and are currently being reviewed
at our City Attorney’s Office. One of the sites is located at Roosevelt Avenue
and Johnson Street and the other is in the 1100 block of Johnson Street.

-Windmill Project
Superintendent Hover reported that a meeting was held on October 12 with
all the stakeholders in the project and another meeting is scheduled in mid-
November. The Historic Resources Advisory Committee will be
recommending a site where the windmill will be installed.

ITEM 7 – REVIEW OF COMMISSION CALENDAR

No changes to calendar.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Superintendent Hover announced Commissioner White will be

?
attending the 2006 CPRS Conference in Ontario on March 16-18.
