The "Saplingathlon" is expected to be completed
by 3:00 p.m.
If approved, on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at 7:00 a.m., the triathlon races begin. There
will be three waves of triathletes. The races course will involve swims in the Westpoint
Marina, runs along the pedestrian path on the south side of Seaport Blvd., east of
Chesapeake Dr., and a bicycle course that will utilize one lane, in each direction, of
Seaport Blvd., east of Blomquist St. The triathlons are expected to be completed by
2:00 p.m.
Should alterations be required, any change to the race routes will be determined under
the supervision and approval of the Police Chief or his designee. A map is attached for
reference.
The owners of the Pacific Shores complex support the event and have consented to the
use of their property for the stated purpose. The Stanford University Triathlon Team has
completed an extensive notification process to the affected businesses along the route
and no objections have been received by staff, nor have any complaints or objections
been received from previous year's events.
ALTERNATIVES
The City Council could choose not to adopt a Resolution authorizing the street closure.
The selection of this alternative would prohibit the 14th annual "Treeathlon" event from
taking place.
FISCAL IMPACT
The Stanford University Triathlon Team will pay for the services of Police Department
personnel to control traffic between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2018.
The Stanford University Triathlon Team will provide personnel to conduct the necessary
postings of the affected roadways under the supervision of Police Department
personnel. No other City services are required.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The proposed action is not a "project" for purposes of CEQA, as that term is defined in
CEQA Guidelines Section 15378 and does not require environmental review.
SEAN HART
LIEUTENANT
