that the community have a voice in the process. She is an employee of Stanford <br />Hospital and knows that Stanford is very prestigious and can bring good to <br />Redwood City. She wants to ensure that the community has a voice and that <br />Stanford Hospital brings something back to the community. <br />Linda Cornell, a longtime Redwood City resident and employee of Stanford <br />Hospital, stated that her concern with the clinic is that Stanford will be exempt <br />from property taxes yet benefits will be utilized such as the Police Department, <br />Public Works and the Fire Department. She stated that it is fair that Stanford be <br />publicly accountable for this project. <br />Linda Lopez stated that she is representing El Concillio of San Mateo County <br />which has been in San Mateo County for 25 years and that the purpose is to <br />improve the quality of life for Latinos. That is done by identifying the needs, <br />promoting programs that meet the goals and she is speaking of the human impact <br />of the project. She stated that she is not convinced that Stanford will comply with <br />the community needs and she wants to be sure that there is clear assurance that <br />Stanford will listen to the needs and comply. She further stated that culturally <br />competent services should be provided and that a productive and effective line of <br />communication with labor and the community is in order. She stated that El <br />Concillio would propose that a body be created for that purpose to oversee not <br />only the planning process but the ongoing success and promotion of good, strong <br />community relations and labor relations. <br />Christine Walters stated that her partner is an employee of Stanford and they are <br />both residents of Redwood City. She echoed the concerns of her fellow residents <br />about open and transparent process of community input. She further announced a <br />town hall meeting and community forum featuring guest panelists, community <br />organizations, residents and elected officials to further air issues surrounding this <br />expansion project. The forum will be held at 6:00 p.m. on November 17 the Fair <br />Oaks Community Center. <br />Cassiopeia Kitchens stated that she is a resident and attends Canada College <br />and she expressed her opinion that the City Council should demand a full <br />environmental impact report so that the environmental interests of the community <br />are protected. <br />Janet Borgens, representing the Friendly Acres Neighborhood Association, stated <br />that the organization has been in talks regarding the projects for some time and <br />there are some concerns. She stated that parking is a concern and Stanford is <br />known for charging to park which encourages parking into the neighborhood. <br />Another issue is that an estimate of 600 jobs is projected for the site with <br />approximately 500 already held by Stanford employees.
