A summary of each of the meetings is provided in attachments to this report, along with <br />a Fact Sheet on the Project, and the concept presented at the February 22 meeting. <br />Highlights from the February 22 meeting include: <br />Participants in the workshops expressed appreciation that the scope/scale of the Project <br />has been reduced to 80,000 square feet (45,000 sq. ft. for the Veterans Memorial <br />Senior Center, and 35,000 sq. ft. for the YMCA); the original CEQA Notice of <br />Preparation enabled the City to study a total of 130,000 square feet of new building and <br />a potential parking garage. Currently, the Veterans Memorial Senior Center, the Old <br />49er Building, the Resource/Gift Shop building, Herkner Pool complex, and the NFL <br />Alumni building together occupy 65,500 sq. ft. The total new proposed square footage <br />of the two buildings is 14,500 sq. ft. more. At this time, a parking garage is not a part of <br />the overall conceptual plan. <br /> <br />Comments from participants were wide-ranging, but many expressed support for design <br />renderings, new facilities, and appreciation for the parallel, deliberate traffic planning <br />process announced at the meeting (including a series of three upcoming meetings that <br />are specifically traffic related). <br /> <br />· Parallel Traffic Study and Engagement: Neighbors stated they felt heard and <br />agreed the engagement of traffic and planning expert Dan Burton of Blue Zones <br />was a critical and positive step forward in the effort to manage traffic and parking <br />at the site. Neighbors and the project team attended the first of three traffic- <br />specific workshops on March 1. Additional workshops will be held on March 22 <br />and April 26. <br /> <br />· Building Design and Materiality: The February 22 meeting showcased the most <br />detailed building renderings to date. Attendees expressed appreciation for the <br />new aesthetic, which the project team is calling “Bay Region Style,” as well as <br />the permeability of the facilities and each building’s integration and flow with the <br />park. Lastly, there was universal agreement from the attendees for keeping <br />building height and scale appropriate for the neighborhood. <br /> <br />· Improved Intra-Park Circulation: Acknowledging it’s still an early concept, the <br />idea of using electric trams to bolster park circulation, especially for seniors, was <br />very popular. Attendees agreed it would allow for more parking flexibility and <br />increased utilization of the nearby SamTrans stop while providing a good <br />alternative for those needing physical assistance. <br /> <br />7.A. - Page 5
