· Green space and trees: Attendees expressed appreciation for plans to maximize
green space and maintain the large trees along Madison Street, and that the
modest building footprints eliminated encroachment on Red Morton Park.

· The pedestrian promenade: Separate from the reclaimed green space around
the facilities, further programming detail of the pedestrian promenade received
positive feedback from attendees. Another theme discussed was the importance
of proper lighting as necessary for safety and nighttime enjoyment.

· The public process: As noted above, participants expressed appreciation for the
inclusion of a separate traffic study and engagement process, as well as updates
to the plans, program, and design in response to individual comments and
feedback at the prior workshops.

Areas for Further Study
Below are themes from the table-by-table discussions, identifying a series of issues that
remain important to many community members and which the design team will be
prepared to discuss with the Council and in other public discussions planned about the
project.

· Parking and Traffic: Parking and traffic were the most frequently discussed
issues of concern. Participants requested retaining “Veterans Memorial” as the
building name, no longer combining it with the “seniors” designation, and
discontinuing usage of the VMSC acronym. Some stated that including “seniors”
in the name of the building diminishes homage to veterans. Lastly, veterans in
attendance reiterated their request for better displays and storage for their
memorabilia, and designated space for meetings and activity. An outdoor
memorial was suggested in addition to the inside displays. City staff have
requested separate meetings with veterans groups to provide further input.

· Holistic park-wide transportation: As noted, there was much support for the idea
of free electric tram/shuttle service both around the park and to/from points of
interest in Redwood City. Community members understood it required
7.A. - Page 6
