ADJOURN BOARD OF EQUALIZATION MEETING <br /> <br />RECONVENE THE SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING <br /> <br /> B. Ordinance to Amend Redwood City Code Sections 20.44, 20.45, and 20.45.1 - <br /> update legal speed limit on various designated streets, including reducing <br /> the speed limit on Stafford Street between Whipple Avenue and the northerly <br /> city limits from 35 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour; <br /> <br /> Traffic Engineer Haygood stated that this is an ordinance that to address changes <br /> in the street system that have occurred over time. There have been various streets <br /> that now have lower speed limits posted and justified by surveys, there are <br /> obsolete street name references, and two streets that will reflect speed limit <br /> changes as justified by surveys. <br /> <br /> Mayor Claire queried City Attorney Yamamoto regarding his potential conflict in <br /> participating on this topic and concluded that he would leave the dais, but speak at <br /> the podium as an individual of the public. <br /> <br /> Mayor Claire left the dais and Council Member Ruskin presided. <br /> <br /> Public Comment: <br /> Kevin Bondonno, an active member of the Centennial Neighborhood Association, <br /> stated he would be speaking about traffic issues of Stafford Street and specifically, <br /> the proposed speed limit change from 30 to 35 miles per hour. Mr. Bondonno <br /> stated the on concerns regarding the safety and well being of those participating in <br /> Redwood High School along with its childcare facility as well as the Peninsula <br /> Swim School facility. He submitted a petition from residents in the Centennial <br /> Neighborhood and asked that the ordinance be passed to lower the speed limit on <br /> Stafford Street. <br /> <br /> Richard Claire, speaking as a resident living on Alameda de las Pulgas between <br /> Brewster and Whipple. He stated that that particular area is approximately 40 feet <br /> wide, and with cars parked legally on either side is further reduced to a point where <br /> two cars going opposite directions have a difficult time passing one another. He <br /> further stated that to increase the speed limit to 30 miles per hour would be a <br /> mistake on such a narrow street.
