Recovery and Cleanup <br /> ref. SWRCB Order No. 2006-0003-DWQ Element 6(e) <br /> <br />The recovery and cleanup phase begins immediately after the flow has been restored and the spilled sewage <br />has been contained to the extent possible. The SSO recovery and cleanup procedures are: <br /> <br /> <br />8.1 Estimate the Volume of Spilled Sewage <br /> <br />Use the methods outlined in the Sanitary Sewer Overflow and Backup Response Procedures <br />(Appendix B), and/or the Field Guide to estimate the volume of the spilled sewage. Wherever possible, <br />document the estimate using photos and/or video of the SSO site before and during the recovery <br />operation. <br /> <br /> <br />8.2 Recovery of Spilled Sewage <br /> <br />Vacuum up and/or pump the spilled sewage and rinse water, and discharge it back into the sanitary <br />sewer system. <br /> <br /> <br />8.3 Clean-up and Disinfection <br /> <br />Clean up and disinfection procedures will be implemented to reduce the potential for human health <br />issues and adverse environmental impacts that are associated with an SSO event. The procedures <br />described are for dry weather conditions and will be modified as required for wet weather conditions. <br />Where cleanup is beyond the capabilities of City staff, a cleanup contractor will be used. <br /> <br />Private Property <br />City crews are responsible for the cleanup when the property damage is minor in nature and is <br />outside of private building dwellings, such as in front, side and backyards, easements, etc. In all <br />other cases, affected property owners can call a water damage restoration contractor to <br />complete the cleanup and restoration.
