In both cases, City claim forms may be issued if <br />requested by the property owners. <br /> <br />Hard Surface Areas <br />Collect all signs of sewage solids and sewage-related material either by protected hand or with <br />the use of rakes and brooms. Wash down the affected area with clean water and/or deozyme <br />or similar non-toxic biodegradable surface disinfectant until the water runs clear. The flushing <br />volume will be approximately three times the estimated volume of the spill. Take reasonable <br />steps to contain and vacuum up the wastewater. Allow area to dry. Repeat the process if <br />additional cleaning is required. <br /> <br />Landscaped and Unimproved Natural Vegetation <br />Collect all signs of sewage solids and sewage-related material either by protected hand or with <br />the use of rakes and brooms. Wash down the affected area with clean water until the water runs <br />clear. The flushing volume will be approximately three times the estimated volume of the spill. <br />Either contain or vacuum up the wash water so that none is released. Allow the area to dry. <br />Repeat the process if additional cleaning is required. <br /> <br />Natural Waterways <br />The Department of Fish and Wildlife will be notified by CalOES for SSOs greater than or equal <br />to 1,000 gallons. <br /> <br />Wet Weather Modifications <br />Omit flushing and sampling during heavy storm events (i.e., sheet of rainwater across paved <br />surfaces) with heavy runoff where flushing is not required and sampling would not provide <br />meaningful results <br /> <br /> <br />8.4 Public Notification <br /> <br />Signs will be posted and barricades put in place to keep vehicles and pedestrians away from contact <br />with spilled sewage. County Environmental Health instructions and directions regarding placement and <br />language of public warnings will be followed when directed. Additionally, the Public Works Supervisor <br />will use their best judgment regarding supplemental sign placement in order to protect the public and <br />local environment. Signs will not be removed until directed by County Environmental Health, Public <br />Works Supervisor, or designee. <br /> <br />Creeks, streams and beaches that have been contaminated as a result of an SSO will be posted at <br />visible access locations until the risk of contamination has subsided to acceptable background bacteria <br />levels. The warning signs, once posted, will be checked at least every day to ensure that they are still <br />in place. Photographs of sign placement will be taken. <br /> <br />In the event that an overflow occurs at night, the location will be inspected first thing the following day. <br />The field crew will look for any signs of sewage solids and sewage-related material that may warrant <br />additional cleanup activities. <br /> <br />When contact with the local media is deemed necessary, the Public Information Officer, Assistant <br />Public Works Director and/or Public Works Superintendent will provide the media with all revelvant <br />information. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />6.2.A. - Page 108
