REV: 03-16-18 MI
ATTY/AGR/2018.054/RECOLOGY OF SAN MATEO
ARTICLE 6 1274
TRANSPORTATION 1275
6.01 TRANSPORTATION OF COLLECTED MATERIALS 1276
Contractor shall transport and deliver all Solid Waste, Source Separated Targeted 1277
Recyclable Materials, Used Motor Oil, Used Motor Oil Filters, Household Batteries, Cell 1278
Phones, Bulky Items, Abandoned Waste, and Organic Materials Collected under this 1279
Agreement to the Designated Transfer and Processing Facility. Once Collected materials 1280
are deposited by Contractor at the Designated Transfer and Processing Facility, such 1281
materials shall become the property of SBWMA or Operator. The Contractor is not 1282
responsible for providing processing services except as provided in Section 6.04. 1283
6.02 LIMITATIONS ON CONTAMINATION 1284
A. General. The Agency is required by the Act and other State legislation/regulations 1285
(such as, but not limited to, AB 341, AB 1594, AB 1826, SB 1061, and SB 1383) and 1286
its implementing regulations to divert a substantial portion of Solid Waste generated 1287
by residents, businesses, and institutions within its Service Area from Disposal at a 1288
landfill. In order to accomplish this, the Agency, through the SBWMA, has made a 1289
major investment in new recycling equipment and facilities at Shoreway Recycling 1290
and Disposal Center. In order for that equipment to operate efficiently, the amount of 1291
Contamination in loads of Recyclable Materials, Organic Materials, and Plant 1292
Materials delivered to Shoreway Recycling and Disposal Center must be limited to 1293
specific levels. Moreover, higher levels of Contamination can make processed 1294
Recyclable Materials unmarketable or substantially reduce the price that purchasers 1295
are willing to pay. The cost that the SBWMA must charge users of Shoreway 1296
Recycling and Disposal Center (including Agency) is directly affected by the amount 1297
of revenue generated by sales of Recyclable Materials processed by its Operator. 1298
Therefore, for both environmental and financial reasons, it is important that Contractor 1299
place a high priority on ensuring that Contamination in loads of Recyclable Materials, 1300
Plant Materials, and Organic Materials delivered to Shoreway Recycling and Disposal 1301
Center is minimized. Contractor shall work collaboratively with Agency and SBWMA 1302
to accomplish this and will implement the specific measures described in this Section 1303
and Section 6.03. 1304
B. Contamination Levels. The maximum Contamination Levels for each category of 1305
Recyclable Materials, Plant Materials, and Organic Materials are specified in Table 1306
1. 1307
6.2.B. - Page 46
