• Choosing a route to school/destinations <br />• Bicycling with friends <br />• Recognition of traffic signs and signals <br />• Driveway awareness <br />• Recognizing basic traffic hazards <br />• Driver behaviors <br />• Avoidance of common causes of collisions <br />• Explanation of infrastructure <br />• Explanation of traffic laws/city ordinances <br />• Explanation of school traffic policies <br />• Wearing a helmet <br />SCOPE OF SERVICES FOR BICYCLE RODEOS: <br />Safe Moves will schedule, coordinate and conduct at least 14 Bicycle Rodeos Days for <br />at least 7 schools in the Redwood City School District. The Bicycle Rodeos will be <br />interactive hands-on programs allowing students to experience traffic situations as <br />bicyclists in a safe learning environment called "Safe Moves City." By using a realistic <br />environment, the ability of students to recognize and avoid traffic hazards will be <br />improved. The lesson plans and traffic situations become more challenging for the <br />upper grades to accommodate their "real life traffic challenges." <br />"Safe Moves City" has the following features: <br />• Sidewalks <br />• Intersections <br />• Crosswalks <br />• Traffic signs and signals <br />• Cars <br />• Trucks <br />• Buses <br />• Residential area (various set ups to reflect the diverse communities) <br />• Business district with stores and parking lots with entrances & exits <br />• Alleyways <br />• Bike lanes <br />• Railroad tracks with train, signal, gate and signs <br />• School <br />"Safe Moves City" is module and can be set up to resemble the traffic environment <br />around each school and infrastructure so students can practice safe bicyclist skills in a <br />familiar setting. "Safe Moves City' will also reflect the school policy and procedures for <br />drop-off and pick up. The following skills will be taught: <br />o Explanation of safe places to bicycle (sidewalk, bike lanes, paths) <br />o Bicycling in traffic <br />o Crossing streets safely <br />o Crossing intersections safely <br />REV: 11-16-17 RL <br />Page 11 of 12 <br />AM/AGR.2017.271/Safe Moves <br />
