Port of Redwood City

Summary

The 2001-2002 Grand Jury reviewed operations of the Port of Redwood Cit7 (Port) and
its relationship w/th the City of Redwood City (City).

The City Council should re.~sess the Port's functionality. Since the Port's creal/on, 66
years ago, major economic, technolo~cal, and ellvironmeilta] cha~§es have occurred.
The City Council should condum a comprehens/ve study to de~,,,ine the best ufi1~7~fion
of Port land for the benefit of the City and its residents today. In addition, because the
Ci%, owns the land, its potential liability exposure warrants a study with respect to the
control and management of that land.

Recommendations

1. The City Council should be~ a~tive oversight and review of the Port of
Redwood City.

2. The City Council should expand the City's General Plan to include a
comprehensive review of the Port's role md alternative uses of Port land that
would best serve the City and its residents.
