consultation with the Mayor and Vice Mayor, which items are placed on the City Council
agenda and the timing for scheduling such items. The revisions also provide for a City
Councilmember referral process. This process would allow any Councilmember to bring
any matter that is not otherwise scheduled on a City Council agenda to the attention of
the City Council. The City Council would then determine whether the matter should be
placed on a future City Council agenda.
These changes are identified in a redline version of the Guide to City Council
Communications and Business, provided as Attachment A to this staff report.
ALTERNATIVES
1. Direct staff to modify proposed revisions or provide direction on other changes to
be made to the Guide to City Council Communications and Business.

2. Take no action and keep the current practice.

FISCAL IMPACT
No fiscal impact.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This activity is not a project under CEQA as defined in CEQA Guidelines, section
15378, because this policy, if adopted, sets forth a general administrative policy, and it
has no potential for resulting in either a direct or foreseeable physical change in the
environment.

ALEX KHOJIKIAN
DEPUTY CITY MANAGER

MELISSA STEVENSON DIAZ
CITY MANAGER

ATTACHMENTS:
1.
