REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager April 9, 2018 SUBJECT Second Reading (Adoption) of an Ordinance to add Chapter 46 “Minimum Wage Ordinance” to the Redwood City Code adopting an increase of the minimum wage for employees working within the City of Redwood City to no less than fifteen dollars ($15.00) per hour by 2020 RECOMMENDATION Waive the Second Reading and Adopt an Ordinance to add Chapter 46 “Minimum Wage Ordinance” to the Redwood City Code adopting an increase of the minimum wage for employees working within the City of Redwood City to no less than fifteen dollars ($15.00) per hour by 2020 and finding that the proposed ordinance is not a project under CEQA and, in any event, exempt under Section 15061 of the CEQA guidelines BACKGROUND On March 26, 2018, the City Council introduced and approved an Ordinance to add Chapter 46 “Minimum Wage Ordinance” to the Redwood City Code adopting an increase of the minimum wage for employees working within the City of Redwood City to no less than fifteen dollars ($15.00) per hour by 2020. ANALYSIS On March 26, 2018, the City Council waived the first reading and introduced and approved an Ordinance to add Chapter 46 “Minimum Wage Ordinance” to the Redwood City Code adopting an increase of the minimum wage for employees working within the City of Redwood City to no less than fifteen dollars ($15.00) per hour by 2020. The March 26, 2018 staff report is attached to this report and contains additional background and analysis. The subject ordinance increases the minimum wage in Redwood City in two increments beginning in 2019. The City will reach a minimum wage of no less than $15.00 per hour by January 1, 2020.
