REDWOOD SHORES LIBRARY UPGRADES
FACILITIES
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
For FY2018‐19, a small but important project is the additional of a new
exterior door to provide access to the Pirate Ship imaginative play area that
will be installed by PRCS in late 2018. The Library will need to remove two of
the storefront system window panels in the story room and replace them
with a glass door, as well as adding security gates to prevent theft or loss of
Library materials through his new building exit.
As the Redwood Shores Library passes its 10th anniversary in 2018, some of
the most heavily used components will be demonstrating significant wear.
The Automated Materials Handling system that processes and sorts
customer returns will be in need of a system overhaul/upgrade, and
furniture in the children's, teen, and community room areas will be in need
of replacement, and the air wall separating community room spaces had
already started showing signs of wear in 2016. Installation of the automated
return sorting system increased efficiency by using automation to allow
business to grow significantly without adding staff, and sustaining this
efficiency requires periodic equipment upgrades.
PROJECT BENEFITS
Improves customer experience.
Increases staff efficiency and reduces need for additional staff
Reduced maintenance costs on equipment nearing end of life
PROJECT STATUS

PROJECT SCHEDULE

Planning Design Construction
04/2019 06/2019 07/2019 09/2019 10/2019 12/2019

PROJECT ESTIMATES
REQUESTED BUDGET 5 – Year Future
FUND 2018/19 2019/20 2020/21 2021/22 2022/23 Total Years
357 $25,000 $405,000 $0 $0 $0 $430,000

Total

$25,000 $405,000 $0 $0 $0 $430,000
9.A - Page 49
