I know that you are familiar with them, but these are the programs that will
specifically be staged within the Museum or in the downtown:

.

kick off event on January 2, 2006 -- will highlight the opening of a special
sesquicentennial exhibit at the Musewn. At 2 p.m. there will be a
Chautauqua presentation discussing the political formation of the County
and its legal history. A wine and ch~~se reception will complete the days'
activities about 4:30 p.m., a perfect time to'þromote area restaurants with
sample menus etc.

.

grand celebration on April 19, 2006 -- the county was born on April 19,
1856. We intend on having a big party at the museum and then programs
at the Fox Theater. Again, this is a great time to promote area restaurants.

.

historic train arrives on April 22, 2006 -- a historic steam engine with
vintage rail road cars, will come down the Peninsula, thanks to the
Sesquicentennial Committee, and will stop at various cities on the line,
including Redwood City, where there will be a reenactment.

.

historic ship the Alma comes to the Port of Redwood City on May 13,
2006 -- special shuttle buses will take families from the port to visit the
Museum during its annual Charles Parsons Maritime Day. "Hands on"
activities for kids will be featured.

.

the Peninsula Celebration Association's July 4,2006, parade held in
Redwood City will have the sesquicentennial as a theme.

.

In July, we will coordinate with the Redevelopment Agency the opening
of our three new exhibit galleries (more than doubling our exhibit space
now) with the City's plaza celebration.

.

"San Mateo County -- Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" will replace our
annual Victorian Days. Various activities on the plaza will help celebrate
the opening of our new Wells Fargo Learning Center within the museum
on September 16, 2006. Activities will include reenactments, historical
fashion shows, the Wells Fargo stage coach and much more.

.

our traditional Columbus Day activity in October will be enhanced to
become a tribute to all immigrant groups who have come to San Mateo
County. Special programs will take place in our new Immigrants Gallery.

.

our second Chautauqua will focus on great entrepreneurs of San Mateo
County and our new Entrepreneurs Gallery, on November 18.
