M/S Howard /Ira nominated Council Member Foust as the next Vice Mayor of Redwood City. M/S Howard /Hartnett to close the nominations. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote. Council Member Howard stated that she considers it an honor to nominate Council Member Foust citing her professional and personal accomplishments. She is Executive Vice President of Alsace Development International, past Chair for the Redwood City /San Mateo Chamber of Commerce, past President and current board member of the Redwood Shores Community Association, and serving her first term on the Council. She further serves on many volunteer boards on the community such as the Redwood City Library Foundation, Sequoia Awards, Advisory Board for School Force in Redwood Shores, Redwood City Rotary, Sandpiper School PTA, and the San Mateo County History Museum. In 2002, the San Mateo County /Redwood City Chamber of Commerce and Bay Area Bank named her the Athena Businesswoman of the Year. She expressed admiration for the dedication and passion she brings to everything she does stating that on the Council, her intelligence guides her, and what is best for the community always guides her actions and heart. She further gave examples of her work and accomplishments in the community. Council Member Foust was unanimously selected to serve as Vice Mayor for the next two years. MINUTE ORDER 05 -235 B. Comments by Council Members, newly selected Vice Mayor, and Mayor; Vice Mayor Foust stated that when first elected to City Council there is a very strong learning curve and it was an honor and privilege to work with the former Mayor and Vice Mayor. She stated that with the other four Council Members they form a great team and they would not be on the Council without the community. She further stated that whether one voted for them or not, the Council is working for all of the community and is committed to doing its best to carry on the City business in a way that exemplifies integrity. The city value of integrity is, "to do the right thing, not the easy thing." She stated that it would not be possible to do the job without the support of the entire City staff. She expressed a tremendous amount of respect for Mayor Pierce and her appreciation for the opportunity to serve as Vice Mayor. She is incredible, thoughtful, kind, she cares and there is nobody to be found that is more committed. Vice Mayor Foust especially thanked her daughters, Lydia and Julia, for putting things in perspective and stated her pride in being their mom. Council Member Hartnett stated that it was a pleasure to serve on the Council under the leadership of Mayor Ira and Vice Mayor Pierce.
