that it has been a great balance as a Mayor and Vice Mayor. He thanked the <br />Council for making it easy for him and truly working as a team, working with each <br />others' styles and remaining flexible. He thanked the City Clerk's office for <br />supporting him for the last two years and the City Manager's office as well. He <br />thanked his family stating that their support and allowing him to be Mayor for the <br />past two years provides the foundation that makes it all work. He stated that <br />during his time as Mayor there have been tough times and very exciting times. He <br />further stated gratitude for all of work done during the budget process and that <br />staff has done a great job of determining how to make the cuts without affecting <br />service and staffing levels. He cited the downtown rejuvenation that includes the <br />theatre, and downtown plaza as very positive indicators. He stated that the topic <br />he is most proud of is the Recycled Water Community Task Force that is the <br />perfect example of how government is supposed to run and resulted in <br />compromise that worked. He further stated that community building is so <br />important and the PACT program and Community Builders program are designed <br />to involve the community members to help in making real change in the future. <br />M/S Ira /Foust to nominate Vice Mayor Pierce to serve as Mayor. <br />M/S Foust/Hartnett to close the nomination for Mayor. The motion passed by a <br />unanimous voice vote. <br />Mayor Ira recalled the defeat of Measure B and his consoling Vice Mayor Pierce <br />during that difficult time, and that one of the highest points was her re- election two <br />years ago. He stated that both those examples exemplify how much Vice Mayor <br />Pierce cares about the community and that she has a true, warm and caring <br />heart. He stated that she is always thinking about how to put the community first, <br />having a great passion to solve issues and engaging people in conversation to <br />understand and bring them to consensus. He further stated that she strives to <br />form partnerships and seek volunteers in the community. He stated that she is a <br />wonderful person, will make a great Mayor and guide the community with care <br />and love. <br />Vice Mayor Pierce was voted unanimously by roll call vote to serve as Mayor <br />for the next two years.
