B. Comments from newly installed Council Members <br />Council Member Hartnett expressed thanks to those involved in his campaign and <br />who voted for him stating that the trust and confidence placed in him is not taken <br />lightly. He thanked the role models in his family that have served the City of <br />Redwood City. He stated his pride in serving with the other 6 members of the <br />Council who are great colleagues and public servants. He further stated his pride <br />in serving the community and working with a City staff that truly believes in <br />community service. <br />Council Member Howard thanked the people of Redwood City for re- electing her to <br />the Council and that it is an honor to serve with her colleagues. She stated that it is <br />a strong affirmation that the community is pleased with the direction the city is <br />going. She stated that she looks forward to the next 4 years of challenging herself, <br />the City Council and staff, as well as the people to work together and make <br />Redwood City the real gem of the peninsula. She thanked her friends, families and <br />volunteers for their support and work over the past several months. <br />Council Member Aguirre stated that over the past 10 months she has realized the <br />wonderful job that her colleagues have been doing and the great amount of <br />respect she has for people who have served. She thanked her volunteers and all <br />others who worked so hard on her campaign. She further thanked her family who <br />without their support she could not have been a stronger person to help her be a <br />better Council Member. She stated that this is a wonderful opportunity and working <br />for the community has been a privilege, it is humbling and that she has a great <br />amount of respect for the position. <br />Mayor Ira thanked the people of Redwood City for their confidence and trust, <br />stating that he will do all he can to prove that trust. He stated that while precinct <br />walking the topics of interest and concern expressed by residents are those that <br />will be worked on by the Council. The topics repeatedly mentioned were the need <br />for safe neighborhoods and that meetings have occurred for meeting the needs in <br />the downtown. He also heard that, although not directly involved with the schools, <br />education is a primary concern for all children and that Council work toward a great <br />education for them. He further stated that spending money wisely is a priority and <br />that it is for the Council as well. He thanked all volunteers that worked on his <br />campaign. <br />C. Nominations and selection of Mayor for a two -year term, conducted by City Clerk; <br />Vice Mayor Pierce thanked Mayor Ira for his time and effort during the past two <br />years and as a sign of respect she presented him two gifts from the Council. <br />Mayor Ira thanked Vice Mayor Pierce stating she had been supportive, going to <br />meetings and as a friend.
