While the
Commission voted to adopt the attached resolution determining the project consistent
with the San Carlos ALUCP, it also requested that this letter be forwarded to the City of
Redwood City noting the Commission's concurrence with noise issues raised by both
the San Mateo County Public Works Director and the San Carlos Airport Association.
Although the subject property lies outside of the 60 dB CNEL airport noise contour,
which is the threshold identified in the San Carlos ALUCP for aircraft noise impacts, the
area nonetheless will be exposed to a significant number of overflights, and the
resultant noise from those operations. As indicated in the attached comment letters, the
project site is located directly below the San Carlos Airport's noise abatement departure
from Runway 12. It is also situated directly beneath both the straight in visual and the
GPS approach to runway 30, and as such will be subjected to numerous overflights,
many at very low altitudes (ie. 500 feet). The letter from the County Public Works
Department further documents nearly 2,000 noise complaints from Redwood City
residents (excluding Redwood Shores) from January thru October 2017. The subject
project will likely result in a similar level of noise disturbances for future residents of the
proposed development.
