F ^.ek 4/1/64-7 <br />R E S O L U T I O N N O. 2SZ <br />RESOLUTION OF COUNCIL OF CITY OF REDWOOD CITY CONCERNING <br />UNDERGROUND INSTALLATION OF HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSMISSION LINES <br />IN THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO <br />WHEREAS, the Town of Woodside has enacted a zoning ordinance <br />requiring new high voltage electrical transmission lines to be <br />placed underground; and, <br />WHEREAS, this ordinance is reasonable and in accord with a <br />national trend to place electric transmission and distribution <br />lines underground, particularly in scenic and recreational areas <br />immediately adjacent to our rapidly -growing centers of population <br />in California; and, <br />WHEREAS, it is manifestly in the interest of the citizens <br />of this city and the public generally that new high-voltage <br />transmission lines be placed underground, and that the scenic <br />beauty and recreational areas of San Mateo County and all commun- <br />ities therein be preserved; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Pacific Gas and Electric Company has refused <br />and continues to refuse to place underground a proposed 220,000 <br />volt electric transmission line running through the Town of <br />Woodside and unincorporated areas of the County of San Mateo <br />to serve the Stanford Linear Accelerator unless compensated <br />therefor in the form of rates for electric power deemed un- <br />justifiable by the Atomic Energy Commission, the agency of the <br />federal government which will operate the Accelerator; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Atomic Energy Commission has, as a result of <br />the position of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, elected <br />to condemn and build its own overhead line through said area, <br />thereby permanently disfiguring the scenic beauties and recre- <br />ational areas along the Skyline Ridge and Searsville areas of <br />the County of San Mateo; <br />
