Once the over-excavation has been <br />approved by the Earth Systems representative, the bottom of the excavation should be <br />scarified, moisture conditioned, and re-compacted as described later in this section. <br />3.Fire lanes, flatwork, and driveways constructed close to the creek bank may need to be <br />protected by erosion control measures on the bank such as sheet pile or retaining walls. <br />Compaction Recommendations <br />1. ln general, the underlying native soil should be scarified at least 8 inches, moisture <br />conditioned and recompacted to the recommended relative compaction presented <br />below, unless noted otherwise. This scarification operat¡on should be performed at <br />locations designated for proposed structural fill, concrete slabs-on-grade, foundations, <br />and asphalt pavement areas. <br />Recompacted native soils and fill soils should be compacted to a minimum relative <br />compaction of 90 percent of maximum dry density at a moisture content at least 2 <br />percentage point above optimum. Low and non-expansive soil should also be compacted <br />to a minimum 90 percent of maximum dry density at a moisture content above optimum. <br />ln areas to be paved, the upper 8 inches of subgrade soil should be compacted to a <br />minimum 92 percent of maximum dry density. The aggregate base courses should be <br />compacted to a minimum 95 percent of maximum dry density. The subgrade and base <br />should be firm and unyielding when proof-rolled with heavy, rubber-tired equipment <br />prior to paving. The pavement subgrade soils should be periodically moistened as <br />necessary prior to placement of the aggregate base to maintain the soil moisture content <br />near optimum. <br />Fill Recommendations <br />Structural fill is defined herein as a native or import fill material which, when properly <br />compacted, will support foundations, building slabs, pavements, and other fills. The on- <br />site native fill soils that are free of debris, organics and other deleterious material, may <br />be used as structuralfill. The Bay Mud should not be used as structuralfill unless it is lime <br />treated. <br />lmport fill is not anticipated at the site.
