46. South San Francisco
In a workshop on Feb. 14, 2018, the South San Francisco City Council considered amendments to its inclusionary housing
ordinance that would expand the requirements to include rental residential developments, per Assembly Bill 1505 signed
into law in 2017. The city currently mandates that developers of for -sale housing set aside 20 percent of the units as
affordable or pay an in -lieu fee. Staff is recommending the city proceed with a three-year phased approach that starts
with a 5 percent inclusionary percentage for rental development and reduces to 10 percent the percentage for market -
rate development starting on July 1, 2018. The percentages would ramp up to 10 percent in the following two years. The
city is also evaluating the in -lieu fee methodology, which could result in a reduction in the current rate which is estimated
to be $420,000 per affordable unit.
47.
