Parks for the Future representatives <br />shared information and received feedback from Council and Commission <br />members as well as the public on a potential 1/8 cent sales tax to provide an on- <br />going stable funding source for parks and recreation activities. (708) <br />B. Initiation of process to establish an Active Community Parkland Standard for <br />Redwood City <br />Parks and Recreation Commission Member Susan Swope and PRCS <br />Superintendent Hover explained the topic, recommendation and background. <br />Council questions included what the discussion was based on to arrive at the <br />standard, whether parks outside of the city limits that have been funded for <br />improvements could be included. Comments included that the needs assessment <br />should be completed, the Parks and Recreation Commission should study <br />utilization of large areas of space in public utility easements. <br />Recommendation: <br />M/S Foust/Bain to: <br />1. Council adopt a resolution of intention, directing the Planning Commission to <br />consider an amendment to the 1990 General Plan to establish an Active <br />Community Park Land Standard of 3 acres /1000 residents, and <br />RESOLUTION 14679 OF INTENTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY TO REFER TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION CONSIDERATION OF <br />AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY STRATEGIC GENERAL PLAN <br />TO ESTABLISH AN ACTIVE COMMUNITY PARK LAND STANDARD OF THREE (3) <br />ACRES PER THOUSAND POPULATION AND DIRECT THAT ANY SUCH <br />RECOMMENDED AMENDMENTS TO THE STRATEGIC GENERAL PLAN BE <br />PROVIDED TO THE CITY COUNCIL <br />The motion passed by a unanimous roll call vote. <br />Hartnett/Bain to: <br />2.
