<br />DES:djy 06/07/e6 <br />I <br /> <br />(002/47) <br /> <br />8. <br /> <br />MUNICIPAL PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS, MEETINGS, SEMINARS. <br /> <br />It <br /> <br />is <br /> <br />understood <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />agreed <br /> <br />that <br /> <br />City <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />benefit <br /> <br />from Attorney's <br /> <br />participation <br /> <br />in <br /> <br />certain <br /> <br /> <br />mutually <br /> <br />activities relating to Municipal Law. <br /> <br />Therefore, Att rney shall <br /> <br />maintain <br /> <br />his <br /> <br />active <br /> <br />participation <br /> <br />in <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />City <br /> <br />Attorney's <br /> <br />Department and activities of the League of California Cities, so <br /> <br />long as City shall retain its membership in said Le gue. <br /> <br />City <br /> <br />shall advance or reimburse <br /> <br />to Attorney his <br /> <br />costs <br /> <br />a d expenses <br /> <br />incurred <br /> <br />in <br /> <br />attending <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />Annual <br /> <br />City <br /> <br />Attorneys <br /> <br />Department <br /> <br />Meeting, <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />Annual <br /> <br />General <br /> <br />Conference, <br /> <br />and <br /> <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />such <br /> <br />committees <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />said <br /> <br />League <br /> <br />to <br /> <br />which <br /> <br />Attorney <br /> <br />is <br /> <br />or <br /> <br />elected. <br /> <br />Subject <br /> <br />to <br /> <br />prior <br /> <br />authorization <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />City's <br /> <br />Council, <br /> <br />Attorney may enroll in, <br /> <br />attend, <br /> <br />and participate in conferences, <br /> <br />courses, <br /> <br />seminars, <br /> <br />committee <br /> <br />work, <br /> <br />or <br /> <br />other <br /> <br />activities <br /> <br />in <br /> <br />addition <br /> <br />to <br /> <br />that <br /> <br />hereinabove <br /> <br />specified <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />League <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />California Cities, or other organizations <br /> <br />(such <br /> <br />e National <br /> <br />Institute <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />Municipal <br /> <br />Law <br /> <br />Officers) , <br /> <br />or <br /> <br />associ tions, <br /> <br /> <br />or <br /> <br />entities, <br /> <br />or perform work of a professional or schol rly nature <br /> <br />related <br /> <br />to <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />practice <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />Municipal <br /> <br />Law. <br /> <br />Upon <br /> <br />such <br /> <br />authorization, <br /> <br />Attorney <br /> <br />may <br /> <br />incur <br /> <br />costs <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />e penses <br /> <br />in <br /> <br />connection with the particular event or activity so authorized, <br /> <br />which shall be advanced or reimbursed by City. <br /> <br />9. <br /> <br />OUTSIDE <br /> <br />COUNSEL. <br /> <br />The <br /> <br />parties <br /> <br />acknowledg <br /> <br />that <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />requirements of the City for legal <br /> <br />services may, <br /> <br /> <br />time to <br /> <br />time, necessitate retention of counsel for specialize, <br /> <br />specific <br /> <br />assignments not furnished by Attorney. <br /> <br />Such assignments include, <br /> <br />but <br /> <br />are <br /> <br />not <br /> <br />limited <br /> <br />to, <br /> <br />defending <br /> <br />actions <br /> <br />agains <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />City <br /> <br />9 <br />
