<br />~~ <br /> <br />APPENDIX A <br /> <br />GENERAL INFORMATION CONCERNING THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br />General <br /> <br />The City of Redwood City (the "City") is located in the San Francisco Bay Area 25 miles <br />south of San Francisco. It is the oldest bayside city in San Mateo County (the "County"), <br />incorporated in 1867, and has been the County Seat since 1856. The City combines <br />residential, industrial, and commercial elements in a largely urban environment. Its waterfront <br />provides a yacht harbor and the only deep-water port in the South Bay. A wide variety of <br />housing types are available. <br /> <br />Municipal Government <br /> <br />The City Council consists of seven members, elected by the voters of the City to <br />staggered terms of four years each. <br /> <br />The City Council is the only body elected directly by the residents of Redwood City. As <br />the legislative branch of the government, it makes final decisions on all major city matters. The <br />Council adopts ordinances and resolutions necessary for efficient governmental operations, <br />approves the budget, and acts as a board of appeals. Brief resumes of the City Manager, <br />the Director of Finance and the Financial Services Manager are shown below. <br /> <br />Edward P. Everett, City Manager. Mr. Everett has been City Manager of Redwood City <br />since 1992. Prior to that, he was the City Manager of the City of Belmont for 8 years. He has <br />over 30 years experience in city and county government. His educational background includes <br />a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of California at Davis and a Master's in <br />Urban Affairs from Princeton University. <br /> <br />Brian J. Panty, Director of Finance and Financial Planning. Mr. Ponty has served as the <br />Director of Finance and Financial Planning for the City since 1993. From 1985 to 1993, Mr. <br />Ponty was the City's Assistant Finance Director.
