Gardner Center - Stanford University, Kaiser Hospital, Wells Fargo
Bank, Peninsula Partnership, and non-profit organizations to improve the lives of
children, youth, and their families. The City Redwood City is fortunate to have such a
collaborative as Redwood City 2020 where we have a say in what happens in the larger
Redwood City community, aside from the City services we already provide.

In order to make this collaborative work each partner has taken on some responsibility.
The City of Redwood City provides fiscal and administration services, the Redwood City
School District provides offices, phone, and supplies and the County of San Mateo
provides staffing. The City of Redwood City has been an active member, since its
inception in 1995. A detailed presentation on Redwood City 2020 will be delivered at
the February 13, 2006 City Council meeting.

Since its inception, Redwood City 2020 has spearheaded several major collaborative
initiatives, including:

Family Resource Centers/Community Schools - In 1995, Taft Family Resource Center
opened and brought crucial social services to Redwood City children and families. Since
that time, three more family centers were created, at Fair Oaks, Hoover, and Kennedy
schools. In 2000, Redwood City 2020 partnered with the John W. Gardner Center to
begin the evolution of these Family Resources Centers into Community Schools.
Community Schools unite the most important influences in children's lives - school,
families, and communities - to create a web of support that nurtures their development
