<br /> Page 1 <br />BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br />LARGE GRANT APPLICANTS FY 18-19 <br /> <br /> <br />Ballet America. Ballet America is a community based Ballet Company for students ages 2 - 65. <br />Funds requested are to provide funding for their annual production of “The Nutcracker” held at the <br />Fox Theater. The production includes two matinees and an evening performance, and is part of the <br />annual Hometown Holiday event held annually on the first Saturday of December. <br />Funding Requested: $2,500. Funding Recommended: $1,100. <br /> <br /> <br />Bay Shore Lyric Opera Company. The Bay Shore Lyric Opera Company is a nonprofit <br />organization founded in 1996 in Northern California that serves audiences in the Greater Bay Area <br />counties. BSLO is producing the opera “Cosi Fan Tutte” for a one night show on September 9th, <br />2018 on the Courthouse Square. Admission for this opera is free. <br />Funding Requested: $2,500 Funding Recommended: $1,100. <br /> <br /> <br />Broadway by the Bay. This is Broadway by the Bay’s (BBB) eighth season at the Fox Theater <br />and the second time they have applied for a grant from the Commission. BBB has scheduled four <br />full-scale musical performances, bringing over 20,000 patrons annually to core of downtown <br />Redwood City. Their funding request is to fund operational costs for their 2018 season. <br />Funding Requested: $10,000 Funding Recommended: $4,000. <br /> <br /> <br />Circulo Cultural. Circulo Cultural and the Redwood City Library Foundation are inviting the <br />community to participate in the 8th Annual Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead event in downtown <br />Redwood City on Theater Way in November 2018. Attendees can come and enjoy sugar skull <br />painting, children’s activities, Catrinas face painting for adults and children, altars created by <br />families, procession, music and traditional food and treats. The day emphasizes the traditional, <br />cultural, and artistic values of the Mexican culture. Funding for from the Civic Cultural Commission <br />will help increase the capacity of the event across the board. <br />Funding Requested: $6,000. Funding Recommended: $3,000. <br /> <br /> <br />Dragon Productions Theatre Company. Dragon Productions Theatre Company is a non-profit <br />live theater production company who opened their doors in downtown Redwood City in 2013. <br />Dragon Theatre is requesting funding to help support Phase 1 of their plan, which is part of a <br />strategic plan to demystify entering Dragon Theatre by programming events that are more <br />accessible to the general public and provide a welcoming community gathering space. With the <br />support of neighboring businesses, Dragon Theatre hopes to create a community hub on a new <br />patio space and activate it with temporary pop-up performances. <br />Funding Requested: $5,000. Funding Recommended: $2,000. <br /> <br /> <br />Fuse Theatre. Fuse Theatre collaborates with partnering organizations to create theatrical <br />experiences that respect and celebrate social awareness and spirit of community through three <br />types of theatre practice: Stage Practice, Applied Theatre Practice and Civic Engagement Practice. <br />They are asking for support from the Commission to help fund three pilot public performance art <br />pieces in Redwood City by incorporating performing arts into the fabric of the public art in <br />RedwoodCity using technology and the new Public Art Map. <br />Funding Requested: $4,500. Funding Recommended: $1,000. <br /> <br /> <br />Latino Community Council of Redwood City.
