Since 1995, Redwood City’s Historic
Resources Advisory Committee has invited all public school seventh graders in Redwood City to
participate in tours of historic resources in downtown Redwood City during the second half of May.
The funding request is for bus transportation expenses and lunch for the students.
Funding Requested: $2,500 Funding Recommended: $1,000.

Redwood City Library Foundation. The foundation will host the third annual community festival
STEAM Fest 3.0 in April 2018 on the Courthouse Square. The family-oriented event, named “STEAM
Fest 3.0,” features over 40 exhibitor booths, with hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Art and Math) activities for children, robots, a stage for speakers, food booths, games
and prizes for children, arts and crafts, and performances by local music groups. There is no
admission charge for the families.
Funding Requested: $5,000 Funding Recommended: $1,500.

Redwood City Police Activities League. Redwood City Police Activities League’s mission is to
provide positive programs for at-risk youth in the community. Their annual Blues Festival is a
fundraising event to fund the cost of these programs. This year, PAL has decided to diversity the
array of music genres and talent to perform and engage new audiences from Redwood City and
bring them together downtown. The grant request is to help with operating costs for this event
Funding Requested: $5,000 Funding Recommended: $1,500.

Redwood City Parks & Arts Foundation. The Redwood City Parks and Arts Foundation exists to
advocate, advance, and develop support for parks, recreational programming, community services,
cultural activities, and the arts in Redwood City. Redwood Symphony is well-known as a creative community orchestra that
delivers spirited, high-quality performances of ambitious orchestral music in an innovative and
entertaining format. Funds requested are to provide funding for their annual family concert, where
families with young children are especially encouraged to attend, in costume, as the date falls just
before Halloween, as well as their free outdoor family concert on the courthouse square.
Funding Requested: $2,500 Funding Recommended: $1,500.

San Mateo County Historical Association. The San Mateo County Historical Association requests
that the Redwood City Cultural Commission grant funding to help gather materials and produce
three copies of the “First Contact” traveling trunk for Redwood City schools – 3rd and 4th grade
classes. The curriculum in the trunk will be complementary to that in the most popular school
program at the museum, Proving Plenty. The program explores how the early people who lived in
this area, including the Ohlones and the Spanish, used natural resources. The traveling trunk will
be a valuable tool to advertise the program and a strong additional way for teachers to prepare
students for their program at the Museum.
Funding Requested: $3,710 Funding Recommended: $1,300.

Sequoia Art Group.
