Traffic Engineer Haygood stated the ordinance presented is the same as
introduced with the exception of the recommendation that item 20.44A be deleted
which refers to a 30 mph speed limit on a portion of Alameda de las Pulgas
between Brewster and Whipple. By deleting that segment, it will enact the 25 mph
prima facie speed limit on that segment that is justified by a new engineering traffic
survey subsequent to the July 15, Council meeting. This also is consistent with the
posted speed limits on both sides of this relatively short segment which is currently
25 mph.

Public Comment:
Rudy Luca asked for clarification on the revisions to posted speed limits.

Traffic Engineer Haygood responded that the only substantive revisions to posted
speed limits are on Stafford Street, being reduced from 35 to 30 mph; Emerald Hill
Road, between Farm Hill Road and Jefferson, deleting 30 to 25 mph. The current
segment of Alameda de las Pulgas between Brewster and Whipple have no
speeds posted at this time.

M/S Pierce/Ruskin to delete item 20.44.A and reintroduce AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
SECTIONS 20.44, 20.45 AND 20.45.1 OF CHAPTER 20, ARTICLE IV OF THE
MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY TO UPDATE THE LEGAL
SPEED LIMIT ON VARIOUS DESIGNATED STREETS (first reading and introduction on
July 15, 2002);

The motion passed by a majority roll call vote with Mayor Claire abstaining.
MINUTE ORDER 02-229
Mayor Claire returned to the dais

9.
