7.A. - Page 1 REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager July 23, 2018 SUBJECT Proposed Housing and Human Concerns Committee Work Plan for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018-2019 and FY 2019-2020 RECOMMENDATION Approve by motion, the Housing and Human Concerns Committee Work Plan for FY 2018-2019 and FY 2019-2020 BACKGROUND Each advisory Board, Committee and Commission ("BCC") is preparing a two year work plan, beginning with fiscal year 2018-2019, for Council review and approval. Work plans are to be prepared by BCC members and City staff and presented to the City Council by the BCC Chair and Vice Chair. The Housing and Human Concerns Committee ("HHCC") was initially established by City Council in 1977. The Committee's goal is to advocate for the improvement of the quality of life of Redwood City citizens and to assure that human considerations, as set forth in the General Plan, are given adequate attention in physical and economic decision making. The goal is achieved through the collective leadership of the HHCC by generating improved service and appropriate policy in those agencies responsible for social services. Further impact may be had by encouraging social responsiveness in legislation, zoning, police powers and recreation programs. The HHCC's area of responsibilities currently includes the following: 1. Monitor changing social needs within the community and make recommendations for improved, changed and/or new services. 2. Promote community awareness of social problems existing within Redwood City. 3. Coordinate human service activities within the community. 4. Promote adequate housing for all persons. 5. Advocate housing selection by location, type, price, and tenure, and a free choice of housing for all citizens.
