employment, Employee shall accrue vacation leave at the rate <br /> specified in Exhibit A. <br /> <br /> B. Employee shall accrue 12 work days of sick leave immediately upon <br /> the commencement date of his employment hereunder. He shall not <br /> accrue any other sick leave during the first year of his employment <br /> and upon the commencement of his second year of employment, he <br /> shall accrue sick leave at the rate specified in Exhibit A. <br /> <br /> C. In the event that Employee is required to wait a period of time <br /> (''walt period") before he and his family are eligible to be covered <br /> under the City's health care plan, and he is required to expend funds <br /> to continue the medical health plan he currently enjoys as an <br /> employee of the City of Riverside during that wait period, the City <br /> shall reimburse Employee for those expenditures. <br /> <br />4. Although Employee shall commence his employment with the City no later than August 6, <br /> 2001, he has volunteered to perform work, without compensation, for the City prior to <br /> August 6, 2001, in order to facilitate a smooth transition from the existing City Attorney's <br /> provision of legal services to those which the new in-house, City Attorney Department <br /> shall provide. <br /> <br />5. The City shall reimburse Employee his costs of moving his family from Riverside to the <br /> Bay Area, which said costs are estimated not to exceed $10,000. In the event that said <br /> costs exceed $10,000, Employee will need to obtain the City Council's approval to be <br /> reimbursed for said costs, which said approval may not be withheld unreasonably. <br /> Employee shall retain and utilize persons who provide moving services at a reasonable <br /> cost, after soliciting and receiving bids from at least three movers. Prior to selecting the <br /> mover which Employee desires, he shall consult with a designee of the City Council. <br /> <br />6. The City shall reimburse Employee for the rental costs he incurs in retaining temporary <br /> hous'mg in Redwood City for no more than 9 consecutive months and for a monthly <br /> amount not to exceed $2,000. The $2,000 monthly limitation shall apply to any and all <br /> temporary housing which Employee uses for himself and/or his family during said up to <br /> nine month period. Prior to selecting temporary housing pursuant to this provision, <br /> Employee shall consult with a designee of the City Council. <br /> <br />7. The City shall loan Employee up to $650,000 for the purchase of a permanent residence <br /> located in the City. Employee shall use his best efforts to purchase a home in Redwood <br /> City that is suitable to him and his family. In the event that he is unable to purchase a <br /> home in Redwood City, after exercising his best efforts to do so, the City agrees to loan to <br /> Employee up to $400,000 for the purchase of a permanent residence located outside of the <br /> City.
