<br />ATTY/CHARTER AMENDMENTS/2018/2018 FINAL CHARTER AMENDMENTS <br />REV: 07-18-18 VR <br />Page 15 of 45 <br />Stats.1968, Chapter 76.) (As amended November 4, 1986, filed Secretary of State January 5, 1987) <br /> <br />Section 29. CHIEF OF POLICE: <br /> <br />The cChief of pPolice shall be the head of the police department, and shall have all the powers <br />that are now, or may hereafter be conferred upon sheriffs and other peace officers by the laws of <br />the sState. It shall be his their duty to preserve the public peace, and to suppress riots, tumults, <br />and disturbances. <br /> <br />Their His orders shall be promptly executed by the police officers of the cCity, and every citizen <br />shall lend him them aid when requested for the arrest of offenders, the maintenance of public <br />order, or the protection of life and property. <br /> <br />They He shall execute and return all processes issued to him them by legal authority, and it is <br />hereby made his their duty, to arrest persons violating any law of the United States or the sState <br />or ordinance of the cCity. He They shall have such other powers and duties appertaining to his <br />their office as may be prescribed by the cCouncil or rules of the police department. <br /> <br />They He shall appoint and remove all subordinates in the department, make rules and regulations <br />for the management of the department, all in accordance with the provisions of this cCharter and <br />subject to the approval of the cCity mManager. (As amended April 13, 1954, ratified by <br />Legislature January 13, 1955, Stats. 1955, Chapter 27.) <br /> <br />Section 30. CHIEF OF FIRE DEPARTMENT: <br /> <br />The cChief of the fFire dDepartment shall be the head of the fire department, and shall have <br />charge and supervision over all matters relating to the prevention and extinction of fires, and of <br />all measures necessary to guard and protect all property impaired thereby. <br /> <br />During a fire, the cChief of the fFire dDepartment shall be in supreme authority over the territory <br />involved therein, and all persons in the immediate vicinity of said fire shall be subject to his their <br />orders. <br /> <br />They He shall appoint and remove all subordinates in the department and make rules and <br />regulations for the government thereof, subject to the approval of the cCity mManager. DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND CITY TREASURER: <br /> <br />ThereThe City Manager shall appoint a person who shall serve in the role of be a Director of <br />Finance who shall be appointd by the City Manager. If the City Council has not appointed a City <br />Auditor pursuant to Section 33 hereof, Tthe Director of Finance shall perform the duties, and <br />exercise the powers, of the City Auditor set forth in Section 33. In addition, the Director of <br />Finance shall perform the duties and exercise the powers of the , City Treasurer, City Assessor
