(802) MINUTE ORDER 06 -12 <br />9. PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />A. The Proposed Use of 2005 Citizens Option for Public Safety (COPS) funds of <br />$109,639.00 by the Redwood City Police Department <br />Sergeant Harper stated that for the tenth consecutive year the Police <br />Department has received funds through the program. He stated that the <br />funds received must be used for existing services and it is the <br />recommendation that $102,673.00 of this year's award be dedicated to <br />salaries and benefits of Police Officer positions approved by the City <br />Council pursuant to the staffing study of 1997. The remaining $6,966.00 <br />would be dedicated to the purchase of supplemental swat related law <br />enforcement equipment as recommended. <br />There was no public comment. <br />M/S Hartnett/Howard to close the public hearing. The motion passed by a <br />unanimous voice vote by those present. <br />Recommendation: <br />M/S Hartnett/Bain to approve by motion, the Police Chief's recommendation to <br />dedicate $102,673.00 of the Citizens Option for Public Safety (COPS) fund to the <br />salaries and benefits of the new police officer positions approved by City Council <br />pursuant to the staffing study of 1997. The Police Chief recommends that the <br />remaining funds, $6966.00 be dedicated to the purchase of SWAT related law <br />enforcement equipment.
