<br />Development Plan, it is desirable to provide subsidies, but at the same time, impact <br />and assessment fees are important and bring money into the city. <br />Adrian Brandt stated that Redwood City is one of the largest cities on the Peninsula <br />without a Bicycle or Pedestrian Advisory Committee. He stated that there are many <br />community members who care a lot about the issue and would be pleased to provide <br />input as to how development or reconfiguring of an intersection can be done to <br />encourage people to go downtown because it is safer. He further stated emphasis on <br />joining Sequoia Station and the historic downtown with long-term thought around <br />making that the core focus of the city and easier to cross over the train area. <br />Rob Dickinson, Housing and Human Concerns Committee member, was <br />complimentary in housing at all levels included in the priorities. He further stated that a <br />decision in the downtown development process because it is one of the single <br />greatest changes to Redwood City. He stated that to the extent housing is built, that <br />he would like consideration that each of those developments contains some <br />affordability component. <br />Maria Diaz Vivian reinforced public safety as a high priority in her neighborhood <br />association. She also mentioned under transportation that perhaps signs warning of a <br />bullet train should be posted. She further encouraged native landscaping to save <br />water throughout the entire year. <br />Pete Hughes stated that government is hired by people to do those things the <br />residents cannot provide themselves such as public safety, infrastructure and <br />moderate regulation. Once those priorities are met then other priorities come to mind <br />such as education. He stressed that Redwood Shores not be forgotten in this process, <br />one priority being the levee system and the other being the lagoon maintenance. <br />Billy James, Library Board Member, stated that the City might consider a marketing <br />program for Redwood City. <br />8. COUNCIL DECISION-FORMING <br />Council stated comments that included the need to assess the budget status and work <br />from there; the code enforcement program should be upgraded; the process this <br />session is working better; talk collaboratively with schools about sharing playgrounds , <br />playfields; and other resources; reaffirm priorities being addressed already; the need <br />for a marketing program perhaps in a community newsletter; further discussion of <br />process occurred stating the need for budget information and dialogue with staff. <br />Council requested detailed budget information on community involvement, code <br />enforcement, aggressive pursuit of more fundslrevenues, pedestrian/bicycle advisory <br />committee, full-time neighborhood traffic position, shuttle buses, future rail/ferry, public <br />safety for downtown, Fire Engine #9, and playfields. <br />REGULAR CITY COUNCIL FEBRUARY 6, 2006 <br />PRIORITY SETTING SESSION PAGE 4 <br />MEETING MINUTES <br />....."... .""---'-'-'---""+~-'~--"'~+''''.-'----~'--'-''-'-''--"--,~--,-"",,-,,,'-"-' <br />
