6.3.A. - Page 1
REPORT
August 27, 2018
SUBJECT
Accept California
Grant
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
State Water Resources Control Board - Proposition 1 Stormwater
RECOMMENDATION
By resolution:
1) Accept the CA State Water Resources Control Board - Proposition 1 Stormwater
Grant in the amount of $608,099; and
2) Authorize the City Manager to execute the funding agreement and any
amendments
BACKGROUND
As part of the San Mateo County Stormwater Resources Plan (SMCSRP), the County
sought recommendations from cities for potential green street projects to include project
concepts for in the plan. Having the project concepts in the SMCSRP ensured that the
projects would be eligible for certain grant funding opportunities available through a
variety of State and regional programs. In July 2017 the project concepts were
submitted for the grant funding opportunity, and passed the first round of review. In
October 2017 the full application was submitted and shortly after was approved.
The current design for the Middlefield Road streetscape project includes green
infrastructure improvements, and this funding would help fund these improvements. The
Kennedy Middle School Safe Routes to School project did not originally include green
infrastructure elements. However, including green infrastructure improvements work
well with Safe Routes to School projects since they usually include bulbouts where they
are most efficient to add. Working with the School District, green infrastructure
improvements have been placed within the City right-of-way and on School District
property. This is beneficial to both organizations because it helps us both in meeting our
goals for inclusion of green infrastructure, while also sharing maintenance obligations
and costs.
