First, Council directed the Planning Commission to consider
amending the 1990 General Plan to establish a 3 acres/1 ,000 resident active
community parkland standard as well as to complete the nexus study
necessary to allow the establishment of an in lieu fee. This in lieu fee, if
approved, would provide capital funding only. The second potential funding
source is the Parks for the Future, 1/8 cent sales tax. These funds cannot
supplant existing expenditures but can be used for both capital and ongoing
costs as decided by the jurisdiction. The earliest this could go on the ballot is
November of 2006. The current estimates indicate that Redwood City would
receive approximately $825,000 per year.

c. YmillLProQrams (After Scb.QQJ ProQram)
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department operates after
school programs at eight school sites, and is serving 827 children, at a cost of
$982,000 a year. Currently, five of the eight sites have a waiting list, for a total
of 176 children. A rough estimate of the cost of serving the 176 currently on
our waiting list is $235,000.

4

""- O-_H"_" ---."""----.-" -"---- ..-"" ""--.-----.-..- -
