Do you have a list of duties and responsibilities for the AmeriCorps worker? I see you attached the job
specifications for the Human Services Specialist 1111, From speaking to one of our members at the Fair Oaks
Community Center, they stated that the AmeriCorps volunteer typically does work that falls under the HSS I
classification. Can you please confirm this information? We currently do not have any HSS I workers so I'm not
concerned about the reduction of duties for any of my members.
Thank you,
Evelyn
From: PRCS-Christopher Beth [mailto:CBeth@redwoodcity.org]
Sent: Monday, September 20, 2010 9:31 AM
To: Evelyn Gutierrez
Cc: HR -Bob Bell; PRCS-Teri Chin
Subject: Public Allies San Francisco/Silicon Valley Agreement with City of Redwood City
Importance: High
Good morning Evelyn.
I have one additional request as we're looking at our calendars to schedule a meeting regarding the Custodian
proposal, In the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, we have a Human Services Unit that
provides critical services such as crisis intervention, case management, personal and family counseling,
information/referral services, etc. For the past 4 years, we have been fortunate enough to work with Public
Allies San Francisco/Silicon Valley to place an AmeriCorp to assist with these services at the Fair Oaks
Community Center on a temporary basis. Again, this year, they would like to place an AmeriCorp Ally at the Fair
Oaks Community Center for approximately 9 months.
Public Allies, a national organization, has a new form this year which we cannot sign and have approval forthe
agreement until we have written consent from you. It's a "Statement of Union Consent" which I have attached
to this e-mail along with the agreement for background information. My request to you is that you provide us
with this written consent.
It's important that you know that this AmeriCorp position does NOT take the place of any regular Human Service
Specialists position; that no Human Service Specialists are being reduced or let go; and that the Public Allies has
this temporary position on their own payroll.
I have also attached the job description of the Human Service Specialist as this is a unique position in which this
person would be performing these duties until the end of the agreement (lune 2011).
Thank you for your review and if you have any questions, please let me know.
Chris
Christopher Beth
Director
Redwood City
Parks, Recreation and Community Services
cbetn@ redwoppdc)J'tv.orq
1400 ooseveltZe.
Redwood City, CA 94061
tel: 650.780.7253
fax: 650.368.5087
10/7/2010
