C. Wayfinding and Directional Signage Program - CITY COUNCIL/ <br />REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br />Redevelopment Manager Moeller gave the background on the topic. <br />Analyst Olalla presented the Downtown District proposed as an integral <br />part of the Wayfinding program. <br />Tom Richman, Urban Designer and Landscape Architect, working with staff <br />members and community members to develop a sign program, presented the <br />program. <br />Council asked questions related to the sign program. <br />Mack McDougal and Deborah Shea of Hellbent Marketing gave a presentation on <br />its logo and logo ideas. <br />Recess: 9:05 -9:15 p.m. <br />Keng's Design presented its logo program proposal. <br />(PowerPoint presentations on file.) <br />Public Comment: <br />Steve Hall, former business owner in the downtown, stated that internationally <br />recognized companies' logos have a short, simple logo that is easily identified. He <br />stated that the current Redwood City logo is very recognizable for the downtown <br />area. He further stated that he is not clear if the Downtown Business Group (DTG) <br />has had input on the four different districts but that it is key to the process. <br />Ron Jones stated that when considering the new logo it is important to protect the <br />historic integrity of the downtown. <br />Mike Kastrop stated he disagrees with the concept that signage must be recessive <br />in the Wayfinding program. Due to the visual clutter, the colors must be vibrant. <br />Nita Spangler likes the simple word on the large paddle style. <br />Recommendation <br />M/S Ira /Howard to approve resolution requesting CalTrans to place signs on the <br />101 Freeway, El Camino Road and Woodside Road.
