The Grand Jury requested a response to item R7: <br />R7: The towns/cities of Colma, East Palo Alto, Half Moon Bay, Menlo Park, Millbrae, Pacifica, Portola Valley, <br />and San Carlos should, by December 31, 2018, hold public hearings to evaluate issues and hear residents' <br />views on restricting smoking in multiunit housing in their jurisdictions. <br />Response: <br />At the direction of the City Council, the City of Half Moon Bay conducted a Smoking Survey that was mailed to <br />residents to develop data on what sort of regulations are supported by the public. The surveys were made <br />available on the City's website, in both English and Spanish. Further, paper copies were provided at the Library, <br />Ted Adcock Community Center and City Hall. The City sought input on the Smoking Survey between March 26, <br />2018 and May 1, 2018. <br />The City Council was presented with the results of the Smoking Survey at the May 15, 2018 City Council Meeting, <br />which included 167 responses to the General Survey and 177 responses to the Multifamily Survey. In addition, <br />The City of Half Moon Bay conducted a public hearing to evaluate Issues and hear residents' views on a <br />proposed ordinance restricting smoking in multiunit housing on August 21, 2018. At that meeting, the Council <br />approved the introduction of an ordinance restricting smoking in certain places, including in common areas and <br />individual units in multifamily housing. The Council will consider the ordinance on second reading at a <br />subsequent meeting. <br />Thank you for the work of this Grand Jury and for your efforts to reach out to our communities.
