6.B. - Page 177 of 366 <br />All other regular full-time and probationary employees shall accrue sick <br />leave at the rate of ten (10) hours per month, provided they have worked <br />one hundred sixty (160) hours that month, to a maximum of one - <br />thousand two -hundred (1200) hours. <br />Sick leave usage shall be considered as a privilege which an employee <br />may use at his or her discretion, but shall be allowed only in case of <br />necessity of actual sickness or disability. <br />Charge for sick leave used shall be on the basis of one (1) hour for each <br />hour used; provided however, that sick leave shall be charged for only <br />those hours when the employee was absent from work. Sick leave may <br />not be used before it is earned. <br />9.1.2 Effective July 1, 2005, employees shall be eligible for sick leave benefits <br />from the commencement of their employment with the City, to a <br />maximum of the hours accrued, for absence due to non -occupational <br />disability only during the time such disability, illness, or other sickness <br />or injury continues. Sick leave during the first s+'K-three (36) months of <br />employment may only be used with the approval of the Police Chief or <br />his or her designee. Sick leave shall not be credited to any employee <br />whose employment is terminated prior to threesix (36) months of <br />employment. <br />At the City's request, an employee who has been absent more than three <br />(3) days must file with the City a statement by a per -son license' to <br />or- d anti stFy licensed medical practitioner that the <br />employee was under said doctor's care while absent. When an employee <br />returns to work after any absence chargeable to sick leave or as a result <br />of an industrial absence or illness, the City may require a statement from <br />a physician that the employee is in fit physical condition to perform all <br />the duties of his or her position. In addition, the employee may be <br />required to undergo a medical examination at the City's expense to be <br />performed by a doctor designated by the City, before the employee is <br />permitted to return to work. <br />An em to ee may use qp to five (5) (112) of accrued sick <br />leave in any calendar year f4illness in the immediate fimily.
