6.B. - Page 179 of 366 engaged in a gaipfuleeeiipatien1. the than Citysen,iee) eithez as an efapioyeei of nen — — –9.1:5 In the event an employee has accumulated the maximum sick leave credits of one -thousand two -hundred (1200) hours and the employee becomes so severely ill that he or she exhausts his or her sick leave, the Personnel Officer may, upon written recommendation of the employee's department head, authorize additional sick leave to include any sick leave in excess of the one -thousand two -hundred (1200) hours maximum which may have been lost due to the maximum limitation: provided, however, that sick leave credits were not accumulated for a period of six (6) months or longer. 9.1.65 An employee may elect to receive compensation in lieu of sick leave credits for any calendar year (based on the preceding 26 pay periods) by requesting payment of unused sick leave in writing to the Director of Finance on or before December 1 of the prior year. Payment shall be made at twenty-five percent (25%) of the value of the unused sick leave (50% when no more than 12.5 hours of sick leave have been used) for the preceding 26 pay periods. The City will endeavor to make payment on the non -payroll Friday immediately following the first payroll Friday in January; however, the payment will be made no later than the first pay period in February and shall be paid using the salary in effect December 31. There shall be no payment in lieu of accumulated sick leave benefits for years prior to such calendar year.
