STRATEGIC INITIATIVE Economic Development BACKGROUND In June 2018, the City entered into a professional services agreement with Leslie Parks, an economic development consultant, to provide the City with general economic development strategy assistance. The City hired Ms. Parks on an interim basis to assist with continuing economic development initiatives during the absence of economic development division staff. Ms. Parks has assisted the City on projects of this nature before in 2007 when she drafted the economic development strategy for the City and again in 2016 as the interim Economic Development Manager. Ms. Parks has strong institutional knowledge along with over 23 years of experience providing economic development consulting services to other municipalities including Burlingame, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, Mountain View, San Carlos, San Francisco and San Jose.. Ms. Parks has served the County of San Mateo as interim director of the workforce development program and was formerly the director of economic development for the City of San Jose from 1995 to 2001.
