Inc. through a government cooperative purchasing program
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE
Public Safety
BACKGROUND
In 2010, the Police Department purchased Taser Conducted Energy Weapons (CEWs) for every officer.
These weapons provide an important alternative to the use of lethal force and can reduce injuries to both
officers and subjects. Taser has determined CEWs have a five-year service life and recommends
replacement after five years of use. The Police Department's CEWs have exceeded their recommended
service life and need to be replaced. In an effort to conserve and leverage resources to obtain optimal
pricing and product quality, the Police Department recommends making this purchase through a
discounted offering obtained through a government cooperative purchasing program as provided for in
the City's Municipal Code ("MC"), Chapter 2, Article VII ("Purchasing Ordinance").
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcitV.org
393
