Compare with similar properties. <br />Set in a modest neighborhood of one and two story apartments and single family residences, 221 Standish Street is a good <br />example of what the architectural historians Virginia and Lee McAlester have termed a gable front family house in the National <br />Folk style in their book, A Field Guide To American Houses, (New York: 1984). (See pages 90-91.) The house displays none <br />of the intricately carved brackets, scroll -sawn motifs, or turned spindles of other late nineteenth-century styles. Its lines are <br />simple and undecorated reflecting the tastes and budgets of working people between 1850 and 1890.
