No. 20 and P.S. No. 18 <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the contract documents and award the <br />standard form construction contract 00520 for the Sanitary Sewer Pump Station Improvements Project — <br />Pump Station (P.S.) No. 20 (base bid) and P.S. No. 18 (alternate bid) to the lowest responsible bidder, <br />Casey Construction Inc. of Emerald Hills, California for their low bid of $1,682,653; and, authorize the City <br />Manager to increase the contract amount, if necessary, up to 10% of the original contract amount, not to <br />exceed $1,850,918. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Community Building and Communication <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Redwood Shores Area currently has a total of 26 sanitary sewer pump stations and the Seaport <br />Center/Pacific Shores Center Area has five sanitary sewer pump stations. <br />Over the past ten years, the City has made improvements to sanitary sewer pump stations Marina, 1, 2, <br />3, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19 and 25 to improve the pumping efficiency, ease of operation, and safety <br />of the facility. Pump stations are selected for improvements after Engineering and Public Works Services <br />staff evaluate the condition of the existing facilities and the overall functionality of the pump station. The <br />evaluation includes issues of safety, maintenance and operation efficiency, and the ability of the facility <br />to perform in emergency conditions.
