6.A. - Page 2 of 4
Improvements completed as part of the project include trenching, undergrounding of overhead wires,
installation of conduits, and facilities such as electrical pull boxes and transformers. Additional related
work done by PG&E includes utility pole removal and new electrical facilities.
The work of this project was part of Phase 1 of the Magical Bridge Playground project, and on
September 10, 2018, City Council awarded the construction contract for Phase 2 which includes the
playground renovations themselves, pedestrian access, and improved lighting and drainage. That work is
anticipated to be completed in late 2019.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for the construction of this project was previously approved and appropriated in Capital Outlay
Fund — Red Morton Armory Play Picnic Area Renovation, which has an available balance of
$2,640,332.25 as of September 30, 2018.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The project is categorically exempt from the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act
(CEQA) per Section 15301 of the CEQA Guidelines because relocation of the electrical transformer and
related facilities is a minor alteration of an existing facility involving negligible or no expansion of use.
The entire Red Morton Magical Bridge Playground project is categorically exempt from the requirements
of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines per Sections 15302, 15304, and 15311
because it consists of the replacement and reconstruction of existing facilities along with minor
alterations to the park land and the construction of new accessory park structures.
PUBLIC NOTICE
Public Notification was achieved by posting the agenda, with the agenda items being listed, at least 72
hours prior to the meeting.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to accept the project or authorize the release of bonds and retention which
would be contrary to the terms of the contract and public contracting code.
ATTACH M E NTS
Project Location Map
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
7
