6.A. - Page 1 of 19 <br />Z!���Ak <br />Redwood <br />CityI California <br />wunaed l&cr <br />Kw <br />DATE: December 10, 2018 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Declaration of Results of the November 6, 2018 Statewide General Election for the City of Redwood City <br />based on the County of San Mateo Chief Elections Officer's Certificate and Final Official Canvass <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt a resolution declaring the results of Statewide General Election for the City of Redwood City held on <br />November 6, 2018 as provided by law. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City of Redwood City holds its elections on even -numbered years and a Statewide General Election was <br />held in the city on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. On the ballot were three City Council seats with seven <br />candidates in the running. Also on the ballot were three measures approved by City Council resolutions <br />dated July 23, 2018. The California Elections Code requires that upon certification of the results of an <br />election by the County Elections Official, the City Council shall meet to declare the results of the election. <br />ANALYSIS <br />On December 6, 2018, San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer Mark Church certified the results of the <br />election and has provided the City with a copy of the Official Report (Attachment A). According to the <br />Official Report, the final results indicate the following votes for each of the seven candidates for City <br />Council: <br />Giselle Hale <br />12,723 votes or 18.24% <br />Diane Howard <br />11,904 votes or 17.07% <br />Diana Reddy <br />11,319 votes or 16.23% <br />Rick Hunter <br />10,977 votes or 15.74% <br />Christina Umhofer <br />9,425 votes or 13.51% <br />Jason Galisatus <br />9,028 votes or 12.94% <br />Ernie Schmidt <br />4,370 votes or 6.27% <br />Based on these results, the newly elected City Council Members are Giselle Hale, Diane Howard and Diana <br />Reddy. <br />5 <br />
