These inspectors regularly inspect the City's capital improvement projects and utility permit
projects performed by private utility companies. While most City services are provided by regular City
employees, the City occasionally contracts with outside firms to provide specialized expertise or to
provide additional capacity during peak work periods. At this time, one budgeted engineering
construction inspector position is filled with a regular employee, and funds from the other position were
used to fund a contract position for a period of one year beginning in September 2018. Due to the high
volume of capital improvement projects under construction, a third inspector is required, and the
proposed amendment to the existing contract will provide that support.
On December 13, 2017, staff issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Construction Inspection Services to
the eight firms on the Engineering and Transportation Division's pre -qualified consultant list for this type
of work. On Friday, January 5, 2018, five proposals were received.
