<br />Michelle Smith, representing Friends for Youth, stated that the City has <br />been a very generous supporter that allows them to help youth in need <br />throughout the city. She gave an example of a young participant thought on <br />the importance of having a mentor. She thanked Council for the <br />commitment to supporting young people in the community. <br />Cynthia Smith, Executive Director for the Interfaith Hospitality Network, <br />thanked the HHCC for the process. She explained their unique shelter <br />model that operates in 30 congregations throughout San Mateo County and <br />thanked the Council. <br />Douglas Styles commended the HHCC and the process while explaining <br />the Daybreak Transitional Living Program and the Crisis Intervention and <br />Suicide Prevention program. <br />Vera Ciammetti, thanked staff and HHCC, stated that the potential funding <br />would allow renovating of a home for handicap accessibility permanently for <br />4 disabled adults at an affordable rent rate. <br />Loretta Gallegus, Rebuilding Together, thanked HHCC and staff stating that <br />since 1990, 701 homes and 163 community centers have been renovated <br />throughout San Mateo County with 60,000 volunteers creating over $21 M <br />worth of value for low income homeowners and other non-profits. <br />Melissa Platte, Executive Director of the Mental Health Association, stated <br />that not only does the HHCC support the agencies but through dialogue <br />and conversation, they are pushed to do a better job and make better <br />partners in the community through that effort. She stated that she was <br />endorsing the acquisition of Cedar Street that is envisioned to become a <br />supportive housing program for individuals who experience mental illness <br />and are extremely low income. <br />Kenneth Alfred Armand stated that the Mental Health Association is <br />definitely saving lives and he has full access to assistance with most needs, <br />thanking everyone involved. <br />Wayne L. Dowling stated that he is in the mental health system for several <br />years and involved in the Community Friendship program. He commended <br />the staff members and stated that it his belief that the mental health <br />program in San Mateo County is probably the most outstanding in the <br />country. He stated that there is a long way go and a need for more houses. <br />Chris Coppola, Deputy Director of Mental Health for San Mateo County, <br />thanked Council for considering the Cedar Street project stating that it is <br />difficult to understand the importance of having a home until you do not <br />have one.
