6.B. - Page 1 of 22 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: January 14, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Modification to Regulation of Wireless Facilities in the Public Rights -of -Way <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion: <br />1) Waive first reading and reintroduce ordinance to add Article VIII, "Wireless Facilities in Public Rights - <br />of Way," to Chapter 29 of the Municipal Code; and <br />2) Adopt Resolution Establishing Aesthetic Standards for Wireless Facilities in the Public Rights -of -Way <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />On December 17, 2018, the City Council adopted an urgency ordinance and a resolution establishing <br />aesthetic standards for wireless facilities in the public rights-of-way, and concurrently introduced a <br />standard ordinance establishing the long-term regulation of wireless facilities in the public rights-of-way <br />(ROW). The agenda item is available through the following link: <br />https://meetings.redwoodcity.org/AgendaOnline. <br />This report recommends reintroduction of the ordinance establishing the long-term regulation of wireless <br />facilities in the ROW, and re -adoption of the resolution to provide updated aesthetic standards for the <br />installation of wireless facilities within the ROW. <br />ANALYSIS <br />After further review from staff and consideration of comments from wireless carriers, staff recommends <br />updating the ordinance that was introduced and the resolution that was adopted on December 17, 2018. <br />Some of the proposed updates in the ordinance were substantive enough to warrant a reintroduction <br />rather than a second reading.
